My name is Matthew D. Friend. I am the founder of "An American Portrait - A Family History Project". My interests in family history extended into my early high school studies, however, thanks to a friend from my church. She had gotten me hooked. As of today, some thirty years later, I have gathered a great deal of information from both sides of my parent's lineages.

My goal is to create a website that will be a benefit for all my family, as well as my extended family who are still putting the pieces of the family history puzzle. When I first begun my family history research, it was from my parents original family history project started when I was a baby. Now I have added twenty times to what my parents started.

Thanks to the Internet and other researchers, who have been able to help me accomplish my family history goal through our research together. I am currently gathering information to put together a family history book, but that is a task in the making. Nevertheless, this is going to be shared on this website for others to use for their own research.

I have this desire to add more to my family history by adding this website for my family and other who are a part of these families. This family history project will be a part of my love to be shared with those of interest in my family and beyond. My hope is that you will enjoy this as much as I have doing this.
